Underwater Photogrammetry Captures the Initial Recovery of a Coral Reef at Lalo Atoll

چکیده
Recovery of coral reefs after physical damage sustained from storm events can be affected by various factors. Here, we examined the initial recovery a reef at southern end uninhabited Lalo Atoll Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument its complete destruction Hurricane Walaka in 2018. While site was still mostly (98%) covered mixture rubble and sand, surveys utilizing underwater photogrammetry allowed for detailed quantitative assessments benthic cover confirmed colonization (Pocillopora meandrina Porites lobata), macroalgae sponges. The proportion sand rubble–sand also decreased level observed 2019. Visual fish presence 35 species, large increase no 2019, despite low biotic cover. Overall, organisms return fish, which is potentially supported benthos cryptofauna bed, offer positive signs recovery. photogrammetric present study captured subtle changes provided us with procedure to continue monitoring succession site. Continuous should reveal whether returns original state Acropora dominance or progresses towards assemblage different composition.

BIFURCATION ANALYSIS OF A DDE MODEL OF THE CORAL REEF
In this paper, first we discuss a local stability analysis of model was introduced by P. J. Mumby et. al. (2007), with $frac{gM^{2}}{M+T}$ as the functional response term. We conclude that the grazing intensity is the important parameter to control the existence or extinction of the coral reef. Next, we consider this model under the influence of the time delay as the bifurcat...
متن کاملAtoll-scale patterns in coral reef community structure: Human signatures on Ulithi Atoll, Micronesia
The dynamic relationship between reefs and the people who utilize them at a subsistence level is poorly understood. This paper characterizes atoll-scale patterns in shallow coral reef habitat and fish community structure, and correlates these with environmental characteristics and anthropogenic factors, critical to conservation efforts for the reefs and the people who depend on them. Hierarchic...
متن کاملHerbivore space use influences coral reef recovery
Herbivores play an important role in marine communities. On coral reefs, the diversity and unique feeding behaviours found within this functional group can have a comparably diverse set of impacts in structuring the benthic community. Here, using a spatially explicit model of herbivore foraging, we explore how the spatial pattern of grazing behaviours impacts the recovery of a reef ecosystem, c...
متن کاملSleeping Functional Group Drives Coral-Reef Recovery
The world's coral reefs are in decline, with many exhibiting a phase shift from coral to macroalgal dominance . This change is often associated with habitat loss and overharvesting of herbivorous fishes, particularly parrotfishes and surgeonfishes . The challenge is to reverse this decline and enhance the resilience of coral-reef ecosystems . We demonstrate, by using a large-scale experimentall...
